Professional Profile

Dr. Alison Blencowe, DClinPsy, PGDip, BSc
Highly Specialist Clinical Psychologist

I have over 15 years of experience in the NHS and independent practice, focusing on neurodevelopmental conditions, paediatric neuropsychology, and comprehensive psychological assessments for children and young people. Based in Peckham, I offer in-clinic appointments in South East London and also travel to homes and schools across the Home Counties.

I completed my Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at the University of East London after gaining extensive experience in Tier 4 CAMHS at the Michael Rutter Centre. There, I had the privilege of learning from leading researchers and clinicians in neuropsychological and neurodevelopmental assessment and therapeutic adaptation. I later expanded my expertise in paediatric neuropsychology at a specialist Neurosciences Centre, supporting children with complex neurological and developmental needs.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, I provided psychological support to frontline healthcare staff and psychotherapy to healthcare professionals while continuing my work with children and young people in private practice. I am committed to evidence-based approaches, professional clarity, and accessible communication, ensuring families receive the most informed and compassionate care possible.

I continue to develop my skills and knowledge through formal and informal learning. I have completed Parts1 –  4 of EMDR training and my therapeutic work with adults is supervised by an EMDR consultant to ensure I provide the highest level of care and to support my future aspirations to gain accreditation.  For more information about EMDR training click here.

I am also working towards registration on the Specialist Register of Clinical Neuropsychologist and am in the last stages of the process. There are currently fewer than 60 people in the UK on the register who specialise in paediatric neuropsychology.

Before training as a psychologist, I worked in IT as a web developer, eventually leading the technical department of a consultancy. That early career experience gave me direct insight into workplace stressors outside healthcare, shaping my understanding of resilience and well-being in a variety of professional environments.

A bit about me as a person

I believe in practicing what I preach and have personally tried almost all the therapeutic techniques and strategies I suggest. I especially prioritize self-care through looking after all aspects of my wellbeing including physical, psychological, social and financial.  I exercise regularly, try to eat a well-balanced diet and keep firm boundaries around work and personal time.  I especially love being outdoors and make time to get out of London most weekends.

All that said, I am very much a human and struggle to maintain a regular meditation practice, don’t always get my cardio in and have a terrible sweet tooth that I indulge regularly!
